Mississippi Technology Alliance - Director of Strategic Biomass Initiative
Sumesh was selected for this position in July 2005, to head a $4.2 million project which is partly funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and is focused on commercialization of late-stage or near-term biomass related technologies that will further the "biorefinery" concept.
Mississippi Technology Alliance - Mississippi Alternative Energy Enterprise (MAEE)
Project Development Engineer
Evaluate technical and financial feasibility, and provide oversight for energy projects based on solar, wind, biomass, and green power resources. Assess pre-commercial and commercial energy technologies. Develop markets for alternative energy products and renewable fuels. Liaison with utilities, industry, academia, government, and non-profit organizations. Publish magazine articles and give numerous presentations on energy issues. Wrote state and federal grants for projects totaling $1.6 million.
Sumesh represents the 10-state southeast region on the Energy Committee of the National Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils.
This committee is responsible for researching and reporting on the use of biomass technologies that are suitable for rural America and will help protect soil and water resources and stimulate local economies. The Energy Committee members work in conjunction with the Community Development team members.
Mississippi Development Authority - Energy Division, Jackson, Mississippi
Contract Engineer: Evaluated energy consumption patterns for commercial sites and recommended energy efficiency measures. Served on the Landfill Methane Outreach Program committee.
(formerly) Mississippi Chemical Corporation (MCC), R&D Division, Yazoo City, Mississippi
Positions: Research Project Leader, Senior Instrument Specialist, Chemical Microscopist
Significant Accomplishments
Project Management and Customer Service
Fall 2009 Doctor of Philosophy in International Development
(Expected) University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Besides economic development, this program focuses on the social, political, and technological aspects of development as well. This is a unique "hybrid-delivery" doctoral program that uses the Internet as well as in-person classroom and fieldtrip meetings to educate the students. His research interests include the evaluation renewable energy technology adoption and the biotechnology sector in India. His dissertation is focused on looking at innovation among the smaller Indian biotech companies.
